The Export University program was developed by the U.S. Department of Commerce to train companies in developing an international business strategy customized for their business while identifying the steps needed to find new buyers in foreign markets. Through the work of the Hawaii Pacific Export Council, the program has been customized specifically for small businesses in Hawaii.
The introductory program, Export University 101, covers key export topics such as assessing export potential, conducting market research to target the best markets, understanding foreign regulations and navigating customs requirements, leveraging free trade agreements, connecting with buyers, managing logistics, and methods of payment. Local experts with rich international experience provide insight to help small businesses that are both new to exporting and those exporters hoping to get into a new market or expand their international business.
Export University 201 is a series of additional courses developed to meet more specific needs of Hawaii’s small businesses. For example, a 201 level series will be developed to focus on specific issues (such as Export Controls and ITAR Regulations for Dual-use companies) or tools to boost exports (such as leveraging E-commerce and Social Media to make international sales).
COMING IN FALL 2013: Export University 101 will be available on the web!
