Annalisa Burgos anchors Hawai\u02bbi News Now\u2019s Sunrise Weekends on K5 from 7am-9am, helping launch Hawai\u02bbi’s number one weekend morning show in January 2023. She also reports during the week and teaches journalism at the University of Hawai\u02bbi – M\u0101noa. She’s an international TV anchor and journalist with more than 22 years of experience covering news, business and lifestyle in Los Angeles, New York City, Manila, Singapore, and other cities across Asia and the United States. Annalisa was an anchor\/reporter on KITV-4 and a 2019 Jefferson Fellow of the East-West Center. Michael Burke serves as the Program Manager for the Department of Health\u2019s Food and Drug Branch. Since the branch was reestablished in 2019, he has led efforts to build the program from the ground up, including developing a food manufacturing oversight system that supports local producers in creating safe food products for export. Michael has spent nearly twenty years with the Department in roles focused on improving watershed health, addressing solid waste challenges, and now ensuring the safety of foods, drugs, and cosmetics. Chan is a professor of Natural Resource and Environmental Management at the University of Hawai\u02bbi at M\u0101noa\/ College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience and an internationally recognized scholar in agricultural entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable development. With academic training spanning microbiology, plant and soil sciences, and agricultural economics and management, she has built a career transforming research into enterprise opportunities for smallholders, rural communities, and emerging agricultural markets. As principal investigator or director on multimillion\u2011dollar USAID, USDA, NSF, and international partnership initiatives\u2014including SMARTS, SMARTS2, and UPLOAD JOBS for Mindanao\u2014she has led transdisciplinary teams that strengthen value chains, expand market access, and build entrepreneurial capacity across Asia, the Pacific, and the Balkans. Her scholarship and global collaborations have advanced conservation agriculture, climate\u2011resilient production systems, and innovation\u2011driven rural development, earning recognition such as CTAHR\u2019s Excellence in International Programs Award and an honorary doctorate from the Agricultural University of Tirana. Rick Cohen is the Measurement Standards Branch Program Manager in the Quality Assurance Division of the Hawai\u02bbi Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity (DAB). He oversees statewide inspections, licensing, and enforcement for commercial measurement devices, packaging, labeling, and product authenticity standards covering products such as coffee, macadamia nuts, m\u0101maki tea, koa wood, raw ahi, and Hawai\u02bbi-made products.<\/p>

Since joining DAB, Rick has testified before the Hawai\u02bbi State Legislature and worked closely with agricultural industries to educate stakeholders on regulatory changes. He helped oversee the 2024 economic study that contributed to strengthening Hawai\u02bbi geographic origin coffee labeling requirements to a minimum of 51% Hawai\u02bbi-grown coffee content beginning July 1, 2027.<\/p>

Rick investigates fraudulent Hawai\u02bbi-made product claims, including mislabeling and product substitution cases, resulting in enforcement actions, product removals, and penalties for violations.<\/p>

Originally from Massachusetts, Rick owned commercial businesses and served 15 years with the Town of Barnstable\u2019s Weights and Measures Division as an inspector, trainer, and supervisor. He also worked 16 years with UPS before retiring in 2021 and continuing his commitment to consumer protection and fair marketplace practices in Hawai\u02bbi.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Donovan M. Dela Cruz, is a state senator from District 17, which encompasses portion of Mililani, Mililani Mauka, portion of Waipi\u02bbo Acres, Launani Valley, Wahiawa, and Whitmore Village. Senator Dela Cruz is Chair of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means. He also serves on boards or is a member of various organizations nationally and locally such as the National Council of Environmental Legislators and the Leeward Community College Culinary Institute Board just to name a few. Prior to becoming senator, he also served on the Honolulu City Council for eight years, serving as its Chair for three years, being the youngest chair in the history of the Council, at age 30. As a member of the Business Development & Support Division (BDSD) at DBEDT, Lyle Fujikawa advises Hawai\u02bbi Made entrepreneurs and small business owners on their go-to-market activities and expansion. Lyle supports the planning and execution of the Annual Hawai\u02bbi Made Conference, and the re-development and promotion of the Hawai\u02bbi Made brand in support of entrepreneurs and small business. Leveraging his Japanese fluency and 14 years’ work experience in Tokyo, Lyle consults with Hawai\u02bbi Made companies on their export development and go-to-market activities. Brian Suzuki is the President and CEO of Hawai\u02bbi Air Cargo. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he began his aviation career with Pan American World Airways in both the Passenger and Cargo Departments before joining Hawai\u02bbi Air Cargo in 1982. With 57 years of experience at Honolulu International Airport, Brian has been active in major industry organizations. He is a charter member of the Air Cargo Association of Hawai\u02bbi and the National AirForwarders Association, and a past president of both the Industrial Traffic Association of Hawai\u02bbi and the National Defense Transportation Association\u2019s Aloha Chapter. As a member of the Hawai\u02bbi-Pacific Export Council, Brian lectures on exporting across the islands. He received the Hawai\u02bbi Governor\u2019s Exporter of the Year award in 2000 and the SBA Exporter of the Year award in 2020. A third-generation (sansei) Japanese American, Brian has family roots in Wakayama-ken and Kumamoto-ken. In addition, she also analyzes products for pH, water activity, brix, and more. James Kunane Tokioka\u00a0was named Director of the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) on May 5, 2023. Prior to that, he served as the Deputy Director for the Department of Transportation\u2019s Airports Division. Tokioka began his political career as a member of the Kaua\u02bbi County Council in 1996, where he served for 10 years. He then went on to serve for 16 years as a member of the Hawai\u02bbi State House of Representatives. Prior to his public service, Tokioka worked his way through the hospitality industry, both in Hawai\u02bbi and across the continental United States, doing everything from bussing tables to managing hotels and owning restaurants. Tokioka has also worked for Oceanic Time Warner Cable\/Spectrum, where he oversaw new business management programs and assisted with securing the largest single contract in the company\u2019s history. Formerly CEO of The FoodBowl (NZFIN), New Zealand\u2019s national food innovation center, Grant led the development of an integrated value-chain model connecting farmers, manufacturers, researchers, workforce development, and export markets. Grant co-founded and Chaired the Asia-Pacific Food Innovation Network, enabling cross-border collaboration across Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand and serves as an Independent Director of FoodPlant, Singapore\u2019s national food innovation center. Bringing an active regional perspective to food system development.<\/p>

Grant is a member of New Zealand’s Ministerial Small Business Advisory Group and sat on the Steering Committee for NZ’s, Northland regional land-use transition strategy, with a focus on high-value primary sector development. He works with companies to increase productivity, commercial performance, and scale. Sharon Wages serves as an Associate Extension Agent in food crops with the University of Hawai\u02bbi at M\u0101noa\u2019s College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience (CTAHR). Based on Hawai\u02bbi Island, she co\u2011leads CTAHR\u2019s statewide Farm Food Safety Program, working with Hawai\u02bbi\u2019s fresh fruit and vegetable producers to meet FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) training and on\u2011farm requirements. Dale Wright is a retired Commercial Officer, with 20 years of experience in various domestic and overseas posts with the U.S. Commercial Service. During his career, Dale served as Principal Commercial Officer in Mexico City; as Senior Commercial Officer in Budapest, Hungary; as Standards Attach\u00e9 in Beijing, China where he was also responsible for the Information Technology Sector; as Standards Attach\u00e9 in Mexico City where he also covered the medical equipment\/pharmaceuticals portfolio; and as Commercial Officer in Tokyo, Japan, where he handled the medical equipment\/pharmaceuticals sector. Dale arrived in Japan in December 2002 after serving four years as director of the U. S. Export Assistance Center in Sacramento, CA. He brings a wealth of international trade experience, having been in that field since 1983 when he went to work for the Mississippi Department of Economic Development as an international trade specialist for the Far East. He had similar jobs with the State of California, first as an international trade specialist for the California World Trade Commission, then serving two years as deputy executive officer of the California Agricultural Export Program. Prior to joining the U.S. Commercial Service in 1998, he spent seven years as founding manager of the Sacramento Center for International Trade Development, an international trade consulting organization funded by the California Community College System. His private-sector experience includes four years as Senior Copywriter at an advertising agency in Tokyo, Japan, concentrating mainly on work for Canon Camera, and one year working for the giant trading company Mitsubishi, also in Tokyo. A holder of a B.A. degree in East Asian Studies from Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH, and an M.A. in Japanese language from Washington University in St. Louis, Wright is fluent in Japanese and has a working knowledge of Spanish, Mandarin Chinese and Hungarian. He is married with two grown children and a grandfather of two.
