The visit was the first for the organizers, the Chitose International Communication Society. The delegation was led by Hokkaido Prefectural Government’s Assembly representative.
“This visit is a direct result of the Hawaii-Hokkaido Sister-State/Prefecture relationship that was signed in 2017. In addition, DBEDT led a team of business leaders to Sapporo, Hokkaido, to promote Hawaii as a great business location for Hokkaido companies interesting in expanding their operations overseas,” said Dennis T. Ling, Administrator of the Business Development & Support Division at DBEDT. “We encouraged Chitose’s International Communication Society to lead these students to Hawaii for them to obtain an international educational experience,” commented Ling.
The students from Chitose shared information about Hokkaido in English, which was part of the curriculum that was developed for the Hawaii trip. DBEDT officially deputized the students as Study Hawaii Ambassadors and encouraged them to talk about their experiences in Hawaii with friends and family in their home city.
