Hawaii and Guangdong Reconnect
Posted on Sep 23, 2014 in International Relations, NewsOn Saturday, September 20, 2014, Governor Neil Abercrombie met with Guangdong Province Governor Zhu Xiaodan who traveled to Hawaii to discuss plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our sister-state relationship. Over 75% of people living in Hawaii can trace their ancestral roots back to Guangdong Province.
Governors Abercrombie and Zhu, along with Ambassador Liu Jian, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles, witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the University of Hawaii System and South China Normal University. UH President David Lassner was on hand to sign the agreement along with Wu Jian, Vice President of South China Normal University.
