The Department of Business, Economic Development &Tourism (DBEDT), in collaboration with Study Hawaii, Hawaii Department of Education and representatives of schools, colleges, universities and English language programs promoted Hawaii’s education assets in Japan from September 7-17, 2016, in Tokyo, Hiroshima, Fukuoka and Nagasaki.  The education promotion mission was led by Hawaii First Lady Dawn Amano-Ige, State Senator Brian Taniguchi and Board of Education Chair Lance Mizumoto.

“Hawaii is recognized as a center for cross-cultural education, study abroad, school excursions and short-term academic training programs,” said Dennis Ling, Administrator of the Business Development & Support Division (BDSD).  Members of the Hawaii delegation participated in Study Hawaii seminars and education fairs, meetings with government officials and site visits to schools, colleges and universities to promote Hawaii’s education brand and to establish contacts and leads for future students and study groups to Hawaii.

The mission was a tremendous opportunity to reinforce Hawaii as a location for a diverse array of educational programs and to attract students to Hawaii schools as well as to explore study abroad opportunities for Hawaii’s public and private schools and students.
